An armed 42-year-old man was gunned down by police yesterday after a standoff in the Town of Dunkirk.
Around 7:20 p.m., Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded domestic incident at 2853 Aaker Road in the town of Dunkirk after a female caller reported her husband was intoxicated and causing a disturbance, and she wanted him removed from the home, according to a news release issued by the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
When deputies arrived, a man exited the garage with a shotgun in hand. Deputies ordered the man to put the gun down, and when he did not comply with the order, one deputy fired a less lethal round at the man. The male subject then fired his shotgun at deputies, forcing them to return fire.
When the man fell to the ground, deputies immediately approached him and began to render aid. Med Flight also responded to the scene, where the man was declared dead. None of the deputies were injured during the incident.
The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of family members.
